Common buzzard, kestrel and sparrow hawk

Both kestrels and common buzzards have keen eyesight and beating their wings fast, they seemingly stand still in the air, looking out for mice and insects in the grass.

This is calledhovering.

You often see these birds sitting motionless atop a post or tree, where they can properly survey the ground beneath them.
